REACHing Out Post for November 3, 2019
Dark, cold, and rainy. Sounds like a perfect evening to go traipsing all over town doing outreach. That same evening this week a group of us even went to the woods to talk to people in homeless camps. The weather was miserable that night. It was the kind of night you’d much rather be under a blanket or in front of a fire. So, this brings up some fundamental questions. Why did the apostle Paul keep preaching when he knew he would be beaten, imprisoned, and meet every kind of hardship? Why did David stand up to Goliath in the frightening face of death? Why would you go to serve at the church on your day off? Why would you go to worship on Sunday morning when you feel like sleeping in? A lot of good questions with one good answer. What people are willing to do, that is, what people are willing to go to lengths to do is simply an overflow of what is most important to them. People go to great lengths to glorify God not because He needs anything from us, but rather out of an overflow and abundance of love for Him in our heart. We require many people with a heart overflowing with love for Jesus in order to reach our neighborhood, city, and world for Christ.
