REACHing Out Blurb for September 8, 2019
At times life hits you hard and things are very rough. Circumstances beyond our control seem to overwhelm us. Sometimes we don’t see these times coming and other times we can see them coming a mile away. Either way there is one thing that times like this all have in common – they are defining moments. How will I act and react in this bad situation? Will I be angry? Bitter? Depressed? Will I turn to somebody or something else to take the edge off the pain? Often overlooked and just as important is how others around you perceive your reaction. I think of how Job in the Old Testament had such a defining moment. In the midst of his deepest trouble he had the choice of not only how to react toward God but also how to react toward the friends that were watching to see what a Godly man would do in such a bad situation. All the people in your life are doing the same thing, watching you (the person who identifies as a Christ follower) to see how you will react in tough times. They don’t need to see you “turn toward” God in those times. They need to see your steadfast resolve to have never turned away. People need to see true faith in action through you.
