REACHing Out Blurb for OCTOBER 27, 2019.
You have all heard about the various levels of sin, right? Surely you have. We all know that doing drugs is much worse than telling a small lie, right? Being a little prideful is ok as long as we don’t mistreat other people, right? A little bit of looking is ok as long as we don’t let it go too far, right? You don’t kill, steal, or use the Lord’s name in vain. So, maintaining a “controlled level” of stuff in your life that you know is not Godly is ok, right? A HUGE NO. But this seems to be the “Christian” culture that we live in. A little bit of secret lustful looking is ok as long as we don’t let it go too far (it doesn’t hurt anyone, right?), a little bit of gossip, a small lie, a tiny bit of selfishness with our time or money…we want to categorize and quantify sin. Yet Jesus plainly said in John 14:23 that, “…Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching.” When we decide to let a little sin in, a “controlled amount” as most people rationalize, we should not be surprised when we look back and see that it isn’t so controlled anymore. That is the nature of sin. How can we, as The Church, reach a lost world coming apart at the seams when we are preoccupied flirting with sin? We can’t show the people in our life who Jesus is if we don’t look like Him. We must stop “doing” church, stop entertaining sin, deeply desire a pure heart, and faithfully follow Jesus.
