REACHing Out Blurb for NOVEMBER 10, 2019.
This week’s Reaching Out bulletin blurb is sponsored by the concept of KINDNESS. Last week we took our son to Children’s Mercy Hospital in KC. What was supposed to be an outpatient test turned into two days in the hospital. Praise God, the stay was worth it and we have started to receive answers to a troubling medical issue. Logistically, however, we had not planned on staying in KC for the weekend. We had no extra clothes, supplies, or place to stay. Long story short, the second night we were there I ended up staying in the Ronald McDonald House. This was a FREE night’s stay (in a place nicer than most hotel rooms) provided by generous donations and donors with a staff that treated me like I was the most important person they had ever met. It was unnerving to be on the receiving end of that type of generosity. But what I am struggling to get my head around is that this is NOT a Christian organization. I’m sure plenty of Christians participate, but the charity is not faith-based per-se. And yet what they did for me showed self-denying kindness like I rarely see. This is a large, organized, well-funded charity which exists for the sole purpose of showing kindness. Are we as Christians this organized? This well-funded? Do we stretch way out to do big things for the sole purpose of showing Christ-like character like kindness? Why do we not see more Christian -based organizations that are this big and bold in their kindness? They touched my heart. Are we doing the same…in the name of Christ? Something to think about.
