REACHing Out Blurb for DECEMBER 1, 2019
Bitterness. Resentment. These words paint a vivid picture when you hear them. Who was the first person that popped into your mind when you read them? Maybe a family member? Maybe an acquaintance? Maybe you? The cause of a person’s bitterness can often be complicated and can draw from one incident or a lifetime of experiences, from our own choices or things people have done to us. In the end the result is the same: 24/7/365 pain and misery. I talked with a guy recently that kept telling us how proud he was of his life choices but simultaneously kept trying to provoke arguments about them and tell us how angry he was about people’s response to him. That is resentment. That man was clearly controlled by his resentment without even realizing it. What is the opposite? Being controlled by thanksgiving, all of your actions driven by a heart of thankfulness to God. Why would a person want to know the God you supposedly serve when they can clearly see your lack of thankfulness to Him?
